AI Makes Building Faster. Stripe's Design Lead on Keeping the Bar High
Katie Dill, who leads design at Stripe, argues that building with AI still has to carry your team's point of view and quality standards. She also stresses reviewing the finished work through the user's eyes and revising it.

On September 29, Lenny Rachitsky released video of a stage talk from the Lenny & Friends Summit. In it, Katie Dill, Stripe’s head of design, explains how teams can bring their own point of view and quality standards to the screens and products they now build quickly with AI.
Dill emphasized that the building process itself needs to reflect the team’s judgment. The faster AI lets a team build, the more deliberately it has to embed the perspectives and quality standards it cares about in the work.
Once something has been built, Dill said, teams need to review the result from the user’s perspective. Even if a screen or product is finished, it still has to go through review and revision.
Using AI only to build what you were already building, just faster, means missing the most interesting part, Dill said. AI can do more than raise the floor; it can raise the ceiling too. What remains is how quality standards get applied in actual work, and how a review from the user’s perspective turns into concrete revisions.
