On October 2, Google published a roundup of its September AI announcements. The headliners are a new model, Gemini 4 Argon, and a Gemini app for Windows. The month’s announcements ranged from a model built for hard problems to features that help with PC tasks and voice conversations. Argon is being rolled out in stages starting with security professionals, while the everyday features are landing directly in Google’s apps and work tools.

Who gets Argon first

Gemini 4 Argon is aimed at coding, cyber defense, financial research and legal document drafting. Google says its strengths lie in solving complex problems and autonomously patching security vulnerabilities. It can produce up to 1 million tokens (small units of text) in a single output, which points to tasks that generate very long deliverables.

For now, access to Argon is limited to trusted cyber defenders taking part in the Fairwind Program. Google says it will use feedback from these early users to refine its safeguards, then widen availability to developers, businesses and general consumers. Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, also part of the September announcements, is available to trusted organizations through the same program. That model finds vulnerabilities and automatically fixes the code behind them.

Gemini 3.8 Flash targets multi-step problem solving and long-running software development work. Google says it kept the speed and low cost of its predecessor, 3.7 Flash, while improving problem solving and coding performance. The company also reports gains on tasks handled by agents, AI systems that carry out work on their own.

How to summon Gemini on Windows

Press Alt and the space bar together. Without moving away from what you are doing, you can open Gemini to fact-check a document or get ideas. A separate workspace lets you hand multi-step jobs to Gemini Spark, including gathering and organizing files scattered across Gmail and Drive. You can also generate images with Nano Banana and video with Gemini Omni.

The list of third-party apps you can connect inside Gemini has grown as well. Work tools such as Airtable and Linear, and creative tools such as Adobe and Webflow, are among the additions. You choose which apps to connect directly in Gemini’s settings. Google says the idea is to finish work in one place rather than jumping between tabs.

Voice features are split between conversation and production. Gemini 3.8 Live handles everyday conversation, while Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking works through multi-step problems by voice. Google says both models have been applied to Search Live, Gemini Live and Google Workspace, among others. In Gmail, Docs and Keep, you can work by voice. Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS and Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS create custom voices from prompts, the instructions you give an AI.

What’s new in learning tools, and what the new laptop offers

Gemini Notebook, the learning-focused tool, has added custom study cards and several quiz formats, plus 60-second video summaries. Those video summaries are available in more than 80 languages. Eligible university students can use the Google AI student plan, which comes with higher usage limits, free for 12 months. Google also says its music generation model Lyria 3.5 has launched globally in Gemini and elsewhere. Feed it text or an image and it composes a track.

Googlebook, now open for preorder, is a laptop that combines Android with ChromeOS desktop technology. It includes Magic Pointer, which lets you point at something on screen and ask Gemini about it, and Rambler, which turns speech into tidy notes. Taken together, the announcements show Google sharpening its models’ problem-solving abilities while extending Gemini across PCs, work apps and study tools. The open questions are when Argon will become generally available, which features will be usable in South Korea, how broad Korean-language support will be, and what it will cost.
